On June 20, 2013, I unintentionally dislodged a nest of baby Robins. When I discovered that they were alive, I gentle scooped them up and put them in a hanging plant basket, which I hung from a branch of our lilac bush to get them off the ground and safe from cats and other predators. For several days, I had the thrilling experience of watching and photographing the babies develop and mature as their parents faithfully and protectively cared for them.
On June 25, the babies poked their heads out of the basket for the first time. It wasn’t long before they hopped to the edge and then took off on their first flight, leaving an empty nest behind. Here is a video of one of the Robins taking a peek at the world for the first time:
